It's hard to put into words how much newborn sessions fill me up and how much joy I feel when I get to work with first-time parents to capture the very beginning of their life with a child in their home. I simply love everything about it.
Some things I'd like to remember from my lovely session with the T family...
How delighted and surprised I was at Julia's full head of blonde hair when I first met her. In four years of photographing families, this is only the second baby I've ever met with this much golden blonde hair. And she smelled. so. good. mmmmm.
How Miss Julia smiled about seventeen times in her sleep when my camera wasn't up, and even a few times when it was.
How I did a little happy dance when I found the perfect soft light in their kitchen for baby's portraits and how she was the perfect model for me. Part of making photographs on site in someone's home is finding the best light, and I love engaging the part of my brain that I use to make that happen!
How daddy doted. Ahhh doting new daddies are the best.
How, when it was time for us to take a break for baby to eat, Julia's mama had that same posture of anticipation and uneasiness about how the feeding would go that I remember feeling when each of my three babies were brand new and we were still figuring out breastfeeding together. Those first few weeks of nursing are seriously so. hard. And then how everything was right in the world as soon as Julia latched and settled in to the milky bliss of a full feeding. How I tried to give them space but it was all I could do to not jump in as a cheerleader because breastfeeding is a challenge and us mamas gotta help each other out. How afterward I hoped I hadn't come on too strong or been indiscreet.
How calm, cool and collected they were. I probably noticed this the most because it was quite contrary to how I saw myself after we brought home our first child.
How mama was glowing even more than she was at our sunrise maternity session a couple months prior and I pondered how it is that sleep deprivation can look so so good on some people.
Congratulations T Family on your perfect, precious girl.
